More information on each trip coming soon!
Field trip 1: Behind the Breakthroughs - Exploring Bioeconomy Science
The Bioeconomy Science Institute has facilities in more than 20 locations nationwide and in Australia and the USA. As part of the E-Tipu tour we will showcase activities that offer a cross-section of our science nationwide. You will have the opportunity to visit a state-of-the art metabolomics and proteomics facility where technology helps unravel the molecular building blocks of fibres and foods. Materials scientists will show examples of novel lightweight materials based on wood fibre-polymer composites, and bioplastics made from wool keratins. You will see our food-grade facility where novel plant-based foods are characterised, and formulations are printed with a 3D food printer. The tour will showcase novel pest management approaches and visit Te Kohinga Harakeke o Aotearoa / National NZ Flax Collection. We will look at harakeke cultivars with unique fibre and weaving properties, each suited to different applications in the search for sustainable materials.
Field trip 2: Farm Frontiers - Innovation in the Field
