ChristchurchNZ announced as Host City Partner for Boma NZ agri summit

Held at the Christchurch Town Hall on May 11–12, E Tipu 2021: The Boma NZ Agri Summit is Aotearoa’s pivotal agri event of the year, bringing together a world-class collective of leaders, guest speakers, exhibitors and like-minded attendees who are reshaping food and fibre.

Coming onboard as Host City Partner is ChristchurchNZ, well-known and avid supporters of the ‘supernode’ sector.

ChristchurchNZ’s core priorities — to grow jobs and improve the economic, social and environmental competitiveness of Christchurch in business nationally and globally — are reflected in E Tipu’s mission to keep New Zealand and its people at the forefront of the agricultural scene.

Boma New Zealand CEO Kaila Colbin says, "Canterbury produces one-fifth of New Zealand's agricultural GDP, and the region employs nearly 20,000 people in this sector.

“Partnering with ChristchurchNZ allows us to make sure we're crafting an experience that aligns to and enhances existing initiatives, increasing the impact of the event for the benefit of the entire sector."

ChristchurchNZ’s background initiatives — such as the FoodSouth Partnership, which supports the incubation for food businesses with high-growth potential, and the Workforce Transition into Food, Fibre and Agritech, which helps COVID-19 impacted jobseekers to reskill or upskill into agri pathways — further illustrate the organisation’s long-term dedication to innovate within primary industry in Aotearoa.

ChristchurchNZ is also powering the Food, Fibre and Agritech Supernode Challenge, with the finalists pitching their disruptive ideas for new solutions for sustainable value-added food and fibre production. The grand prize winners will be announced at E Tipu on May 11.

Boyd Warren, general manager of innovation and business growth at ChristchurchNZ says, “With a growing global population and the ongoing impact of climate change, the call for smart agritech solutions is only becoming more urgent.

“ChristchurchNZ recognises the importance of Canterbury’s food, fibre and agritech sector as one way to help ‘future proof’ our economy — by investing, catalysing innovation and growing the talent pipeline now we are building a stronger sector that will attract businesses, provide decent jobs and a prosperous future for many years to come.”

Over two days, E Tipu 2021 and ChristchurchNZ provide a fertile environment to weave it all together and inspire transformational thinking, collaboration, innovation, shared knowledge and a chance to revisit our practices.
